Installing Flock on Ubuntu 9.10
As you all know Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala was released today. I upgraded my beta release to the latest and greatest and really wanted to install the Flock Web Browser. I have used Flock before on Windows and really liked it, and figured if I want to lose Microsoft all together I need to figure out how to install it.
After searching through Forums for a while and not getting anywhere following other instructions step-by-step, I decided to make my own guide on getting Flock installed on your Ubuntu PC. Its easy enough to do and no, I am not a Linux expert in any way… so rest assured, even beginners will be able to do it!
- Download the latest version of Flock from Flock.com
- Copy the downloaded file into your /home directory (/home/yourusername)

- Right click on flock-*.linux-i686.tar.bz2 file and click Extract Here.

- Close out of any open windows and right click on the desktop, select Create Launcher

- Fill in the name field and click the Browse button; Browse to /home/yourusername/flock/flock-browser (click on flock-browser)

- To customize the Icon open up a File Browser window and navigate to /home/yourusername/flock/icons/ and drag & drop mozicon128.png to the springĀ (see highlight in image below)

- Its that simple, you should now have a desktop Icon that launches Flock; Enjoy!
