Gmail Security

logo It looks like Google needs to close a gap in its security for several of its online services, including Gmail. Currently, when you spend that 30mins getting an email ready for your boss and attach that special file, the email is transmitted in plain text to Gmail’s servers, and thats a big no-no.

If you are at an internet cafe preparing your email then you should be worried, even if you are a home user there is still reason for concern. You don’t want any young techy sniffing you packets seeing that plain text that could disclose company secrets.

Hopefully soon Google will have an easier to use option to encrypt Gmail and its online Docs services – after all – security and privacy should be a main concern when trusting an online service provider. Right now there is just a little box that you can mark so Gmail will use HTTPS all the time in a browser.
