Running Beta and Want to Upgrade?
Are you running the Windows 7 Beta? Microsoft will soon be releasing the RC1, but the upgrade process won’t be as easy as you would like. Microsoft is asking testors and the like to remove their current version and revert back to Vista, or start with a fresh installation all together.
Their theory behind this is they want real-world testing to take place, so they want people to upgrade from Vista to RC1, not upgrade the beta to RC1. They are planning on blocking updates on beta machines so they won’t have any easy to get a fully up to date system. It sounds like they realize many people running Windows 7 Beta are using it full time as their main system, and it sounds like they will try to help those of us out who refuse to do a fresh install or upgrade.
Microsoft said that while they will be blocking the Win 7 Beta’s from being updated to the RC1 – they will have a work around in place so those of us not willing to do their refresh won’t get too upset.
All in all I can understand why they have chose to go this route, and I think it will be in everyone’s favor if we play the game as they want us too. I have been meaning to do a refresh on my Win 7 Beta system, and now this is just one more reason to do so – the RC.
