Windows XP: Still Trucking

Yes, everyone has heard of the Mojave experiment; Microsoft’s lousy pitch to get users to adopt windows Vista instead of wanting to purchase new Windows Vista.PCs with XP installed on them. Well, it hasn’t worked thus far and I think the people over at MAC make a good joke out of the whole situation none the less with their plain and simple ‘why not just fix it?’ pitch you have probably seen on TV. The facts supporting it are there.

Microsoft has already pushed back their ‘kill Windows XP date’ twice now and who knows, maybe a third is on the way if Windows 7 Beta’s don’t deliver. Vista has slowly gained market share but it hasn’t come close to that of XP, now at 66%. One thing Microsoft has done to help the adoption of Vista is impose a downgrade fee on XP. Basically, it means you will be paying more for XP. It seems Microsoft isn’t interested in giving us a choice when it comes to what OS we want to use. We will see what damage they have done this coming year as Windows 7 development continues, but I forsee more people looking elsewhere and finding that they really can do more than they think with open source products when they are given the chance.
