Synergy for all
It wasn’t but a few weeks ago when I first read about Synergy, an application that allows you to share one keyboard, mouse and even clipboard data [EX: copied text] between multiple computers at the same desk. I first installed it on two Windows based PCs. One with Windows 2000 and one with Windows XP SP3, it worked flawlessly on both and I am not sure how I have lived without it. Especially when it comes to my laptops. Its available for virtually all platforms, including various flavors of Linux and OS X. Among its other great features, it synchronizes a screensaver among the computers as well as screen locking abilities. That means if you lock your computer before you step away… they all lock – only one password for all the computers with no special configuration needed. And if you are an avid gamer have no fear, with Synergy’s hot-key programmable ’screen lock’, you don’t have to worry about your mouse movements going to the wrong computer. What’s not to like, its a very quick download and install… and its FREE!
note: the Linux version does require some scripting, if you are not comfortable with this or it just isn’t what you are looking for… take a look at QuickSynergy
