Streets and Trips 2009

I first purchased Streets and Trips back in 2007. It was my first GPS kit that I ever bought so even if it wasn’t that great I liked it a lot. I was going to purchase the 2008 version when I noticed that the 2009 version was out[yeah, so I wasn't following the releases that closely]. So I just finished installing it and after reading some reviews I can side with what I have seen.

The 2009 version of S&T really isn’t that much more spectacular than the 2007 version. So yeah, it has the new perspective view that came out in 2008; not to mention its new dark theme to match the Vista look… what is that again? In any amount I am not that thrilled with it. However I am glad that I never bought the 2008 version because I hear that the perspective view among other things were a bit buggy. It is fixed now so I don’t have that to worry about. My only complaint with my original 07 of S&T was that when I went on long trips the map would freeze up. Yes, I did have the GPS trail enabled because I think its a neat idea, but I found out today that that bug has been fixed as well, so no more freezing up… or will it?

What are your thoughts on the whole Streets and Trips gang? Any ideas of better software out there? Just a thought…

I recently installed Streets and Trips 2009 and was glad to see it works great on Vista 64bit.

I love it. I got the GPS with the software for $70. I wasn’t going to upgrade this year (I usually skip a year) but I read they added street names to the spoken instructions – even my portable GPS doesn’t have that.

The spoken street names feature is neat, but you think Microsoft would be able to get it to say ‘State Route’ for SR, not ‘Senior’ as it does each and every time a state route comes up in your travels. Its not a break it feature, but just makes you laugh every time you hear it and wonder who got paid to do the testing.
